Fake Clothing Charity Scams

If you receive any cards through your letter box regarding companies collecting clothes from un-recognised names/charities beware. There are quite a few companies setting up who push cards through doors asking you for un-wanted items. They purport to be sending clothing to third world countries but the truth of the matter is they are actually selling the items to poor people for a profit.

Company laws say limited companies should "have a registered office to which all communications and notices may be addressed". The Theft Act 1968 makes it illegal to obtain property by deception.

If you receive a card  and you think it could be a scams please do not give them anything.

Take the clothing to your local Charity Shop instead.

If you are suspicious about any organisation then telephone the Charity Commission Fundraising helpline on 0207 674 2502.

After I emailed our local PC officer
about this scam this is the reply I received

 Good Morning

Thank you for your email.  I have passed the information on to local officers and will ensure that those attending upcoming local meetings are made aware. Please let us know on our non-emergency number if you see suspicious persons or vehicles in your area as an officer may be available to attend to stop and ask for them to account for their behaviour.  This is particularly relevant at the moment due to distraction burglaries.

Thank you very much for your help

Text messaging Essex Police

Essex Police has gone live with a new text messaging service. This service does not replace 999 which should continue to be used for all emergencies.

Text messaging offers an alternative method of contacting the police to make routine enquiries, to seek or give information, or get advice. The service is particularly aimed at those who have speech or hearing difficulties and may find voice communication problematical. It is also aimed at young people who are avid text communicators and adept at its use.

The number to be used to contact Essex Police by text is

 07624 800101
